The Young and the Restless’ Cricket and Danny Crossing Over to ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’: Details

(6/27/24) (usmagazine.com) The Young and the Restless’ Cricket and Danny are saying goodbye to Genoa City (for a minute) and heading to Los Angeles for the ultimate crossover on The Bold and the Beautiful.

Us Weekly can exclusively reveal that Lauralee Bell and Michael Damian, who play Christine “Cricket” and Danny, respectively, on Y&R are filming two episodes of The Bold and the Beautiful on Thursday, June 27.

“We’re all so excited,” Bell, 55, exclusively told Us of the crossover. “What we’re doing is so authentic to the story.”

Lauralee explained that her brother, Bradley Bell, who is an executive producer and head writer on B&B “saw we were doing something on Y&R and he thought this would be great for B&B.”

She revealed that since musician Danny is touring with his band on Y&R, “Of course he would have a concert in L.A. and that’s how the idea came about.”

In the two-episode crossover, which will air in August, “Danny and Christine are invited to the Forrester Estate for a party celebrating the success of the relaunch of Brooke Logan’s (Katherine Kelly Lang) ‘Brooke’s Bedroom’ fashion line … or so they think,” according to the logline.

“Little do Danny and Christine know, Brooke and Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) have invited them to pitch a new business venture. Not to be outdone, Danny decides to give a surprise performance of his own to share with the partygoers,” the synopsis teases.

Lauralee told Us that the cast and crews of both shows have been “downright giddy” about bringing Cricket and Danny into the B&B world.

“We’re all so excited about this,” she said, recalling, “Six months ago there was a rumor of me coming to B&B and I was like, ‘If I am no one has told me!’ This is such a perfect reason.”

Soap opera fans may remember that Lauralee’s Cricket crossed over to B&B back in 2007, but she said that time was “100 percent legal. It was just a court case.”

This time around, Lauralee told Us that it’s going to be the “complete opposite” because she gets to “dress up and have fun.”

When Cricket returns to Los Angeles for her Bold and Beautiful cameo, she will be coming in support of Danny’s world tour. The actress teased that viewers will see Cricket in a “very rockstar’s girlfriend” outfit, telling Us that a “short black dress” is part of her costume.

The story line will also be focused on the rockstar element of Danny’s character. “We haven’t done a concert of that magnitude,” Lauralee explained.

The crossover also comes as Lauralee and Damian are “celebrating our 40th anniversary as Cricket and Danny,” she told Us, revealing, “So you pick up right where you left off. We’re doing a remix of a big song from before, but you’ll have to wait and see what it is!”

Cricket and Danny tied the knot on The Young and the Restless in 1990 after meeting in 1984. They eventually split after Danny cheated. (He later learned that he actually wasn’t unfaithful, but was drugged by a woman who made him think they slept together.)

The soap opera couple dated on and off for years — in between other romances and marriages. During a March episode of Y&R, Danny asked Cricket to go on tour with him and she said “yes,” signifying that they are back together.

“What’s great is we’re coming to L.A. just as our personalities back in the day, smiling and goofing along and being together,” Lauralee told Us of the upcoming B&B episodes. “When you’re in a deep storyline, there’s tears and drama and now we are at our happiest.”

Cricket and Danny’s appearances on The Bold and the Beautiful will air on CBS Tuesday, August 13, and Wednesday, August 14, at 1:30 p.m. ET/12:30 p.m. PT.i

Young and the Restless star Joshua Morrow's son Crew lands role on The Bold and the Beautiful

(6/17/24) (ew.com) (Photo1, Photo2,) Get ready to see some new, yet familiar, faces on The Bold and the Beautiful.

As first reported by Deadline and confirmed by Entertainment Weekly, Crew Morrow, the son of Joshua Morrow, who's played Nicolas Newman since 1994 on long-running soap the Young and the Restless, is getting into the family business. The younger Morrow is joining The Bold and the Beautiful as Will Spencer, whose parents are Katie Logan (Heather Tom) and publisher Bill Spencer (Don Diamont). Audiences last saw the character in 2020, when he wasn't yet a teenager, portrayed by actor Finnegan George. Morrow's first episode — which is being billed as his first acting role — is scheduled to air Thursday, Aug. 1.

Interestingly, Morrow's new onscreen mother, Tom, once played Y&R's Victoria Newman, the sister of the Joshua Morrow's character.

Morrow is not the only offspring of a celebrity that viewers will see on the show in the coming weeks. Jamison Belushi, whose dad is Jim Belushi, will appear in an episode on Monday, July 15. Her role is that of a lab technician named April, who works with the physician characters Dr. Li Finnegan (Naomi Matsuda) and Dr. John "Finn" Finnegan (Tanner Novlan), who are part of the soap's summer mystery story arc.

Belushi's previous work includes roles on Freevee's 2022 movie Hotel for the Holidays, which starred Madelaine Petsch, and an unnamed role in The Last Summer, a 2019 movie for Netflix that starred K.J. Apa and Tyler Posey. According to IMDb, she appeared on six episodes of her dad's sitcom According to Jim, which costarred Courtney Thorne-Smith and Kimberly Williams-Paisley, between 2005 and 2008. The younger Belushi's mother is the Curly Sue actor's wife, Jennifer Sloan.

The Bold and the Beautiful: Tom Arnold to Play a Pilot as the Forresters Head Back to Monte Carlo

(6/14/24) (usmagazine.com) (Photo1, Photo2) Tom Arnold is coming to The Bold and the Beautiful — and he couldn’t be more excited for fans to meet the Forrester’s new pilot, Captain Deuce Stevens.

Us Weekly can exclusively reveal that Arnold will appear on two episodes of the beloved CBS soap, airing Tuesday, July 30, and Wednesday, July 31, when Ridge (Thorsten Kaye), Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) and Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) head back to Monte Carlo, where they will be relaunching the iconic “Brooke’s Bedroom” fashion line for Forrester Creations.

“It was great fun!” Arnold, 65, told Us. “People love The Bold and the Beautiful. The loyalty, the fans, the opinions … I started going online and listening to fans argue about certain things. It’s like sports.”

The veteran comedian and TV star gushed about his time on set, praising both the stars and crew — and telling a funny story about his first interaction with Kaye. “Every 12 minutes, The Bold and the Beautiful does another scene. It’s a well-oiled machine. They’re just so on top of their stuff,” Arnold said. “I was in makeup and this guy comes in and goes, ‘Hey, can I get you anything?’ I go, ‘I don’t know, do you have Sugar Free Red Bull?’ This guy who I thought was the crew — he had a very hard handshake — was Thorsten. The rich, wealthy father [Ridge]!”

Arnold previously appeared on General Hospital in the 90s and noted he’s been a fan of soap operas since skipping school as a kid to tune in. His fandom continued into adulthood with famous ex-wife Roseanne Barr.

“Roseanne and I loved soap operas. [After I was on General Hospital], we ended up having all these folks on [Roseanne] from the show on,” Arnold told Us of his time as a writer and actor on the classic sitcom. “Because soap operas are very good actors. They don’t mess around.”

Arnold said that he channeled a story from his days with Barr to play a pilot Deuce. “It was helpful that back in the day I had a private jet and a pilot. I thought at the time about [when] Roseanne and I got to the airport to fly to New York [and] we got into an argument. She left without me. I had to get another jet to fly behind her,” he began.

On B&B, Us can tease that Steffy will be running late to the flight and flustered without her passport. “One thing that is true is you have a window to land at the airport. And if you mess around and you’re late, you will miss that [window]. I like when there’s some reality to this stuff. It heightened the scene because Steffy forgot her passport,” Arnold continued. “You expect [the drama] for a character, but it opens the doors for some hilarious stuff. It’s very funny because things are so dramatic that it lends itself to comedy.”

Arnold credited showrunner Brad Bell, whom he’s known for years, for writing the comedic scene. “I appreciated that. But I felt that everyone in the scene was pretty good about a little improvising too,” he told Us. “[Jacqueline] had to do some Lucy stuff with the comedy, ripping stuff out of her bag. … It’s not easy when you have props and you have to do this and this, but it worked.”

Arnold concluded that he was going to call Bell to campaign to get himself back on the show — and continue to brag to kids Quinn and Jax, whom he shares with ex Ashley Groussman.

“I’m a single dad with an 11-year-old and an 8-year-old. I’m just gonna keep repeating, ‘I was on The Bold and the Beautiful. They’re always like, ‘Dad, you’re old.’ Dude, I was on The Bold and the Beautiful!” he said. “You don’t get on there unless you are bold and beautiful.”

The Bold and the Beautiful is broadcast weekdays on CBS at 1:30 ET (and 12:30 PT).

The Bold and the Beautiful's Kimberlin Brown Was 'Very Surprised' by Her Character's Death and Revival

(6/11/24) (people.com) Just because a character dies on a soap opera doesn’t mean they’re gone for good.

Kimberlin Brown, who plays Sheila Carter on The Bold and The Beautiful, learned that first-hand when her villainous character was killed off the show in February, having been stabbed by her daughter-in-law Steffy Forrester (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood). But in the show’s April 29 episode, it was revealed Sheila very much alive.

During an interview with PEOPLE at the Daytime Emmy Awards 2024 on June 7, Brown told PEOPLE she was “very surprised” to learn Sheila’s fate wasn’t sealed for good and that she would actually return to the popular soap.

“It was upsetting when I found out that I was going to be killed off the show. It's a call you never want to get,” she said, adding, “You keep a stiff upper lip, and you're very professional, and then you go home, and you kind of pour yourself a drink and think about it.”

Brown previously opened up about having mixed feelings about her character's departure from the series during an interview with TV Insider in February.

“It’s a tough place for me to be in right now; I’m not going to lie about this,” Brown told the outlet then. “I guess if anyone were going to take Sheila down, I’m happy it’s Steffy. I just wish that no one was taking Sheila down.”

“It’s my happy place where I have been so blessed to be for over 35 years,” she continued. “But I’ve had a good run at it, so I’m one of the lucky ones, there’s no doubt about it.”

Brown also said filming her character's death scene wasn't just emotionally taxing but also physically demanding. “Can I just say that the after effects for Sheila, laying on a concrete floor for hours, that really hurts! I was bruised for the week from laying on concrete!” she explained.

So getting the call to return to The Bold and the Beautiful proved to be an “emotional moment” for the 62-year-old actress, she explained to PEOPLE at the Daytime Emmy Awards 2024 on June 7.

“When I got the call to come back, I was like, ‘Wow,’ … I didn't have to think long, because like I said, she was my baby. I've been playing her for over 35 years, and to have that phone call meant the world to me,” she said, adding, “I didn't want to put her [Sheila] to bed yet, and because of the fan base and their outpouring of comments, phone calls, what happened with the ratings, they brought me back.”

When her character died earlier this year, Brown truly believed that, after more than 1,150 episodes, it was the end for her on The Bold and The Beautiful. So she bought land in Montana where she’s breaking ground and building a home. Brown plans on also keeping her place in Los Angeles and commuting back and forth between the two.

The actress will also start tackling another role come June 26 when her daughter-in-law Kaila, who is married to Brown’s son Nick Pelzer, is expected to deliver a girl. Thinking about her future granddaughter, Brown said couldn’t be more “thrilled."

“I'm going to have somebody to play with again. Kids grow up and the whole dynamic changes for the better,” she says. “But, still, it's going to give me that opportunity to spoil somebody rotten, teach them how to go fishing, go hiking and ride horses — do all of that — and then send them home when they're tired.”

The Bold and the Beautiful airs weekdays at 1:30 p.m. ET on CBS and is available for streaming on Paramount+.

Pierson Fodé Latest To Join Lily James In 20th Bumble Film

(6/3/24) Pierson Fodé (The Man from Toronto) has been tapped for a role in the upcoming film inspired by the story of Bumble founder Whitney Wolfe Herd, from 20th Century Studios and Ethea Entertainment, Deadline has learned.

Like Jackson White, Fode will play a love interest of Herd’s. Others cast thus far include Myha’la and Dan Stevens.

Plot details for the film remain vague, as it’s said to be somewhat loosely inspired by Herd’s story. Famously launching the online dating platform Bumble after co-founding and departing Tinder, Herd became one of the youngest self-made billionaires at age 31, when Bumble went public in 2021. While she stepped down as CEO last year, the app continues to be hugely popular amongst the single crowd.

Still untitled, the film on Herd’s story is scheduled to enter production this year. Rachel Lee Goldenberg will direct from her script written with Bill Parker and Kim Caramele, with James producing alongside Jennifer Gibgot and Andrew Panay of Ethea. Gala Gordon will serve as executive producer, with Sarah Shepard overseeing the project for 20th Century Studios.

Previously seen in Netflix’s action comedy The Man from Toronto starring Kevin Hart and Woody Harrelson, Fodé’s credits on the TV side include Peaco*ck’s Based on a True Story, TNT’s Animal Kingdom, and Facebook Watch’s The Real Bros of Simi Valley, to name just a few. Currently, he has three films in post-production: the indie horror Marshmallow from producers Warner Davis and Todd M. Friedman; Christian Sesma’s actioner 72 Hours with Cam Gigandet; and the romantic thriller Dope Queens, from writer-director Grafton Doyle, which also stars Trace Lysette and Alexandra Grey.

Fodé is repped by Innovative Artists, Zero Gravity Management, and Gang, Tyre, Ramer.

‘Godfather Of Harlem’: Rome Flynn Expanding Notorious Drug Lord Frank Lucas’ Origin Story In Season 4

(5/28/24) Emmy Award-winner Rome Flynn (With Love, How To Get Away With Murder) is set to recur in the MGM+ series Godfather of Harlem for Season 4.

Flynn will portray real-life gangster Frank Lucas, who is described by the streamer as “a country boy from North Carolina who ventured to Harlem and, after initial friction with gangster Bumpy Johnson (Forest Whitaker), eventually rose to become Bumpy’s fierce defender and right-hand man.” Denzel Washington depicted Lucas in the movie American Gangster, but in Godfather of Harlem, his story begins 10 years earlier than in the film.

Created by Chris Brancato (Narcos, Hotel Cocaine) and the late Paul Eckstein, Godfather of Harlem tells a story inspired by infamous crime boss Bumpy Johnson (Whitaker), who in the early 1960s returned from 11 years in prison to find the neighborhood he once ruled in shambles.

In Season 4, Bumpy continues his bloody war for control of Harlem against New York’s Mafia families, while contending with the emergence of a potential rival in newly arrived Black gangster Frank Lucas. After Malcolm X’s (Jason Alan Carvell) tragic death, Bumpy must also grapple with his daughter Elise’s (Antoinette Crowe-Legacy) involvement with the Black Panthers.

“When I saw Rome’s audition, I immediately knew we’d found our man – equal parts charming and ruthless, savvy and suave. Rome is a wonderful actor who can go toe-to-toe with Forest Whitaker and our other great performers,” said Brancato in a statement to Deadline.

Ilfenesh Hadera, Lucy Fry, Antoinette Crowe-Legacy and Erik LaRay Harvey are among the cast returning for Season 4. The first three seasons are available to stream on MGM+.

Produced by ABC Signature, the series is executive produced by Brancato, Paul Eckstein, Whitaker, Nina Yang Bongiovi, James Acheson, Markuann Smith and Ray Quinlan. Michael Panes and Stephen Schiff serve as writing executive producers, and Swizz Beatz serves as executive music producer.

“I’m filled with gratitude! Thrilled to be a part of the Godfather of Harlem universe and breathe new life into the legend of Frank Lucas. I have so much admiration for Forest Whitaker. Working opposite him, being led by the brilliant creator Chris Brancato, is truly a gift. An actor’s dream,” Flynn shared.

Flynn is coming off a stint on NBC’s Chicago Fire where he played firefighter Derrick Gibson in Season 12. Before that, he starred in Gloria Calderon Kellett’s Prime Video series With Love in the series regular role of Santiago Zayas. Working opposite Omari Hardwick and Kelly Rowland, Flynn brought to life Anderson Fisher in the Paramount+ film Fantasy Football in 2022.

Flynn is best known for his work in the CBS daytime drama The Bold and the Beautiful, a role that earned him a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Younger Actor in a Drama Series in 2018. As well as his work in ABC’s How To Get Away with Murder in the role of Gabriel Maddox, son of Sam Keating (Tom Verica) and a law student of Annalise Keating (Viola Davis).

Additional TV credits include Netflix’s superhero drama Raising Dion and Dear White People, CBS’s NCIS: New Orleans and MacGyver, as well as VH1’s Drumline: A New Beat.

‘When Calls The Heart’ Renewed For 12th Season By Hallmark Channel

(5/10/24) Hallmark Channel‘s longest-running original series shows no signs of stopping; the network picked up When Calls the Heart for a 12th season.

The new season will consist of 12 episodes and production will begin in July.

“When Calls the Heart continues to exceed our expectations and the number of fans and viewers continue to grow every year,” said Lisa Hamilton Daly, EVP Programming. “Bringing Season 12 to life is a huge milestone and is a true testament to the cast and crew’s hard work and dedication throughout the last decade. We cannot wait for Hope Valley’s next chapter full of exciting characters and storytelling.”

Season 11 of When Calls the Heart ranks as the most-watched entertainment cable series year-to-date among households, total viewers and women 18+. After four episodes, it is averaging 2.1 million households, 2.5 million total viewers and 1.8 million women 18+.

As Hope Valley enters the 1920s in the current season, schoolteacher Elizabeth Thornton (Erin Krakow) embarks on a fresh start – with new romance, new challenges and new style. She and Mountie Nathan Grant (Kevin McGarry) navigate their growing romantic feelings while also leaning on each other for support as they face new parenting obstacles. Newly elected Governor Lucas Bouchard (Chris McNally) must confront his past in order to embrace his strengths and lead Hope Valley into the future. Retired Mountie Bill Avery (Jack Wagner) and newspaper reporter Rosemary Coulter (Pascale Hutton) team up to unravel a mystery putting their entire community at risk.

“I am overjoyed that When Calls the Heart is coming back for a 12th season,” said Krakow, WCTH star and executive producer. “Our fantastic writers, cast and crew couldn’t be more excited to begin filming this next season. We are proud to tell stories that warm hearts in homes around the world and so grateful to Hallmark for being such champions of that positivity. Having the Hearties’ support over the past decade has been a true testament to what this show is all about: community and love. We cannot wait for our fans to see what Hope Valley has in store.”

‘Not Dead Yet’ Canceled After 2 Seasons At ABC

(5/10/24) After two seasons, ABC has canceled the Gina Rodriguez-led and executive-produced comedy series Not Dead Yet.

Written by Casey Johnson and David Windsor, Not Dead Yet centers on newly single and feeling-old Nell Stevens (Rodriguez), a self-described disaster who works to restart the life and career she left behind 10 years ago. A once-successful journalist, Nell put her career on hold to help her fiancé get his restaurant off the ground. Following their breakup, she takes the only job she can get – writing obituaries – which at first seems like a step backward but ultimately might be exactly what she needs to move forward.

Hannah Simone, Lauren Ash, Rick Glassman, Joshua Banday, Angela E. Gibbs, Jesse Garcia and Brad Garrett also star.

When the show premiered in early 2023, it was ABC’s most-watched comedy debut in more than 4 years. However, the ratings didn’t stick in Season 2. Deadline’s Editor-in-Chief of TV Nellie Andreeva wrote of the show last month, “The single-camera Not Dead Yet is heavily on the bubble. Its ratings have been soft, making for some bleak prospects, though the series starring Gina Rodriguez is said to have its supporters internally and could potentially find a spot next season based on ABC’s scheduling needs.”

ABC comedies that will continue include Abbott Elementary and The Conners, the latter of which will conclude following a shorter, 6-episode Season 7.

This is the second ABC show starring a Latina lead that will not return for a new season following the cancelation of the Jaina Lee Ortiz-starrer Station 19. However, the network did renew the Ramon Rodriguez-led series Will Trent for a third season. Alongside NBC’s Lopez vs. Lopez from George Lopez, Mayan Lopez and Debby Wolfe—which was renewed for a third season this week—Will Trent is only the second Latino-led project on network TV.

Paul Telegdy Producing Spanish-Language Sci-Fi Podcast ‘Zone Of Silence’ With Mario Lopez & Eric Winter

(5/9/24) Former NBC chief Paul Telegdy is getting into the podcast business.

Telegdy, who left the network in August 2020, has teamed up with Access Hollywood host Mario Lopez and The Rookie star Eric Winter, to develop a Spanish-language sci-fi podcast, Zone of Silence.

It marks one of the first projects to be unveiled by Telegdy since he set up The Whole Spiel with his cousin, Stefan Telegdy. In 2022, he was involved in a Falklands war drama series that was being shopped.

Zone of Silence is being produced by The Whole Spiel and podcast company Sonoro.

There are plans to develop it as a scripted television series as well as in other mediums.

The podcast will be centered around Mexico’s often mythicized Zone of Silence, a patch of desert in Durango where no radio signals can be received, which according to urban legend is caused by supernatural forces. When a bus transporting a notorious narco from Mexico to a maximum-security prison in the U.S. goes missing in the Zone of Silence, mass hysteria spreads around the local vicinity. In a town already skeptical of the U.S. government, two federal marshals must work with the locals familiar with the terrain to hunt down the bus and its missing Cargo.

“At a time when the business models of television and streaming are going through a reset, audio is still experiencing explosive growth in usage and therefore can still take risks with talent and ideas,” said Telegdy. “Mario and Eric have great stories to tell, and we are really delighted to be a part of that with Sonoro, where the team continues to deliver compelling content through its ever-expanding universe.”

“The Latino community’s growing influence on culture and commerce is becoming abundantly clear to Hollywood, as is the growth opportunity that creating culturally rich and relevant content presents,” added Camila Victoriano, co-founder and Chief Content Officer of Sonoro. “We’re thrilled to be partnering with such marvels in entertainment to bring Zone of Silence to life.”-

‘The Bold And The Beautiful’ Brings Back Popular Actor

(4/29/24) Talk about a major do-over on the CBS daytime drama.

On the April 29 episode of The Bold and the Beautiful, fans learned that a character they loved to hate isn’t really dead after all.

The villainous Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown), who was supposedly killed off two months ago on the CBS daytime drama, is actually alive and well.

In an effort to bring back the popular Brown, head writer Brad Bell crafted a surprise comeback that involves a character named Sugar who first emerged on Bold‘s sister soap The Young and the Restless (where Brown originated Sheila in 1990). Sheila has a lookalike named Sugar (played, naturally, by Brown), so she was the woman who was killed by Steffy Forrester on Feb. 26. It was not, ahem, Sheila.

B&B has teased the possibility of a Sheila comeback for two weeks, with Deacon Sharpe (Sean Kanan) refusing to believe that his soulmate was dead. But fans may have had a hard time believing it would happen since Brown gave interviews saying she was leaving the sudser for good.

And from Feb. 6 (the date of her last taping) to March 18, Brown thought she was out of soap biz — until she got the call from Bell. In her first interview since returning to B&B, Brown talks to Deadline about her shocking return.

    DEADLINE So, surprise!

KIMBERLIN BROWN I didn’t see this coming, quite honestly.

DEADLINE So who called you about coming back? Was it Brad Bell?

BROWN It was. He was very vague. He was like, ‘okay, I’m working on something. I don’t know what it is.’ And I said, okay. Talk about a roller coaster. The only thing I can think of is maybe it’s because of my fans, maybe everyone who was commenting, who made everything go viral. Brad does listen. He does pay attention, and in my opinion, I truly believe that my following and my fans and the people who have loved to hate Sheila all these years are responsible for me coming back.

DEADLINE Does Brad have a reputation of changing his mind?

BROWN I really don’t know. I get my scripts, I memorize my scripts, I figure out what I’m going to do with it that day to make it spicy and entertaining. And I go to work and go home and see my family and work on the next day. I’m not one of those actresses who are upstairs banging on the door. I let them do their job and I do my job. It’s not my place to question why decisions are made the way that they are. I’m just very, very happy that he chose to bring me back. It surprised me when he told me how he was doing this and he had to put a lot of research into the backstory to make this current story happen.

DEADLINE Maybe he thought he made a mistake and now he’s correcting it?

BROWN Either that or he had this in mind all along and just didn’t tell me about it! But I can’t see anybody doing anything that evil, however. That would be a Sheila moment.

DEADLINE What about the trust from fans? Do you have concerns about how this may land with them?

BROWN I really did because I truly thought I was gone. I gave the interviews knowing that I was gone and I was looking forward to the next chapter in my life and what might come out of it acting wise or otherwise. I even bought property in Montana. I’m expecting a grandchild in June. My son lives there and I’m building a home in Montana so I can be closer to my grandchild. I was looking to close down my home in Los Angeles that I rent for work. And thank God I got the call from Brad the week before I was moving out of my house in L.A. I truly thought this was a done deal. And like I said, it was a bit of a roller coaster ride for me, and I’m just so thankful that that roller coaster is back on the uphill swing.

Sheila is my happy place. I am one of those people that when I go to work, I go to work because I absolutely love what I’m doing every single day. Getting that call, asking me if I would consider coming back, was one of the best calls I’ve ever received in my life.

DEADLINE Let’s go back to the original discussion, when you first learned that Sheila was going to be killed off.

BROWN Brad called me upstairs to talk to me about what he had in mind for Sheila. It was a hard pill for me to swallow. It had been years of playing Sheila, and I consider her my baby, so to speak. And that was definitely not news I was anticipating or hoping to receive.

DEADLINE Was he quite blunt? Did he just straight up say, ‘we’re going to kill Sheila?’

BROWN Yeah, pretty much. I went to his office because he said we needed to talk, and I thought it was going to be storyline related because a lot of times he’ll call me up to let me know what I’m to expect and how he’d like me to play something. I thought that was the conversation I was going upstairs for. And when I walked into his office, he looked at me and went, ‘we’re killing off your character.’

DEADLINE Were you stunned silent? Or did you ask a bunch of questions and make statements like, ‘what are the fans going to say?‘

BROWN No, I’ve never been that actress. I’ve never been the one to question why they do what they do. I am more that person who is just so incredibly thankful that my career lasted as long as it did in daytime. It’s been an amazing ride. But when he told me, you could probably hear a pin drop. I just said okay. I was thankful that he was the one who told me, and that I didn’t hear it from whispers down the hallway. It speaks volumes when you have that kind of integrity, because I know there are other shows that don’t always do that. So I was very happy that he had the respect for me and my character to tell me firsthand.

DEADLINE. What did you think of the reaction to your character’s death?

BROWN I definitely saw the reaction. I even saw what happened with the ratings the following week. Fans were going crazy. They were blowing up. My social media and the stories that everybody wrote in regards to my exit were going viral. And that was amazing to me. It was a bittersweet thing for me here. I was being killed off the show, but here I had literally millions of people so upset about that fact and making it very verbal on Instagram, on Facebook, on Twitter, and it was really neat for me to see. It was wonderful for me to see the effect that my character has had over these years of playing her. I’ve had people tell me before, ‘oh, you’re an icon of daytime.’ I’ve never considered myself anything like that. I’ve only considered myself truly blessed to have had the career that I have. And when all of this came out and the outpouring from the fans was so huge, I didn’t realize that I had that kind of effect on people. I didn’t realize that my character was maybe as popular as she is. I mean, there were posts and direct messages that were sent to me that literally drove me to tears.

DEADLINE So does this mean you are a series regular again?

BROWN I am happy to say that I have been asked to negotiate another contract.

Vega may be new to B&B but is well known to Sean Kanan (Deacon), as he is her stepfather! When the actor married Michele Vega back in 2012, their blended family included his daughter, Simone, and her children, Peter, Gigi, and twins Annie and Juliet.

And yes, Vega’s character is purposefully named Michele after her mother!

Vega has appeared in a few short films and played Delilah in Kanan’s Emmy-winning streaming soap STUDIO CITY. Last year, she played a bridesmaid in the horror film Til Death Do Us Part. B&B will mark the actress’ daytime debut.

While the soap has given no indication what storyline Vega’s character will be a part of, given that this is the same episode where Clint Howard is playing a homeless man who will play a crucial role in Deacon’s search for Sheila, it seems likely Michele will also be helping him out. It would be a shame if Vega appeared on her father’s soap and didn’t get to share a scene with him!

She also contributed to the soap industry as a writer, becoming the associate head writer at General Hospital and penning 197 episodes.

‘The Talk’ Renewed For 15th And Final Season, Sets December End Date On CBS

(4/12/24) The Talk is coming to an end: CBS revealed Friday that its daytime talk show has been picked up for a 15th and final season and will wrap its run in December.

“The Talk broke new ground when it launched 14 years ago by returning daytime talk to CBS with a refreshing and award-winning format,” according to a joint statement from Amy Reisenbach, President, CBS Entertainment, and David Stapf, President, CBS Studios. “Throughout the years, it has been a key program on CBS’ top rated daytime lineup as it brought timely, important and entertaining topics and discussions into living rooms around the globe.”

“It goes without saying that hosting and producing a year-round talk show is no easy task, and we express our sincere gratitude to our amazing hosts Akbar Gbajabiamila, Amanda Kloots, Natalie Morales, Jerry O’Connell and Sheryl Underwood, our Executive Producer/Showrunner Rob Crabbe and the hardworking producing team and crew,” the statement continued. “We also want to acknowledge our former show hosts and colleagues who contributed throughout the seasons. We truly appreciate the skill, creativity, and dedication everyone involved brought to the show every day. And of course, we thank the numerous guests who appeared, and the millions of viewers who tuned in daily. For the final season, we plan to celebrate the show and give it the proper sendoff it deserves when it concludes in December 2024.”

No decisions have been made yet about how CBS will fill the daytime time slot after December.

As Deadline first reported, the future of The Talk was cast in doubt in March when CBS announced plans to develop The Gates, a new sudser that would follow the lives of a wealthy Black family in a posh, gated community. The network didn’t reveal where (or when) it would go on the schedule, should it earn a series pickup.

Canceling The Young and the Restless is out of the question since the Bell/Sony drama ranks No. 1 in daytime and just earned a four-season pickup. Same goes for The Bold and the Beautiful, the Bell serial that is the No. 2-ranked soap in daytime and has been renewed through fall of 2025.

Killing Let’s Make a Deal or The Price is Right doesn’t make sense, either, since both game shows have solid ratings, sound budgets, and frequently contribute much-needed specials for CBS primetime.

That led to speculation about the future of The Talk, which remains the lowest-rated show in the CBS daytime lineup. Produced by CBS Studios and now in its 14th season, The Talk recently underwent change by hiring Crabbe, the former executive producer of The Late Late Show with James Corden, to replace longtime EP Kristin Matthews.

Even though Crabbe made much-needed improvements, like extending the first act of the show and injecting more intimate interview segments, The Talk remains down double digits in persons and women 18-49, though it remains the third most-watched talker in daytime behind The View and Live! With Kelly and Mark. And most recently, CBS let go of The Talk‘s current executive, Laurie Seidman, as well one of the show’s PR reps as part of the company’s widespread layoffs.

The Talk, developed by actress and host Sara Gilbert, was first launched in 2010. Like The View, it was filmed in front of a live audience and programmed to air five days a week. The original panel featured Julie Chen Moonves as the chief news reader, along with Gilbert, Sharon Osbourne, Leah Remini and Holly Robinson Peete. Marissa Jaret Winokur also had a turn at The Talk table.

The panel would evolve over the years as some of the originals moved on. Aisha Tyler joined the show in 2011, followed by Eve in 2017 and Carrie Ann Inaba and Marie Osmond in 2019. The two men joined the show in 2021, along with Kloots and Morales.i

Andrew Keegan To Star In Soapy PR Drama Series From Horror Actress Devanny Pinn

(4/10/24) Andrew Keegan (10 Things I Hate About You, O, Living Among Us) is to star in an indie drama series from horror actress Devanny Pinn.

He will play an entertainment titan in The BLVD, which is being worked up as a six-part series set in LA’s hottest boutique public relations agency during awards season.

Clint Howard Recalls His 'Exhilarating' Experience Working on The Bold and The Beautiful: 'It Was Go Time'

(4/8/24) (people.com) (Photo1, Photo2, Photo3) Clint Howard is used to poring over “boatloads” of dialogue, but for the veteran actor, starring in The The Bold and the Beautiful meant returning to a brisk pace of working he hasn’t experienced since appearing on Santa Barbara in 1987.

Howard, 64, discussed with PEOPLE his new role on The Bold and the Beautiful, appearing in the April 26 and April 29 episodes as the mysterious homeless man Tom, who provides Deacon Sharpe (Sean Kanan) and Dr. John Finnegan (Tanner Novlan) with pivotal clues to a mystery.

Howard shot his scenes with Kanan and Novlan just weeks before the episodes are set to air, which he says proved to be an “exhilarating” experience, partly due to the show’s brisk pace of production.

“You're handed a lot of scenes to do and you’d better be prepared,” Howard tells PEOPLE. “I was taught by both my mom and dad, Rance and Jean Howard, since I was a little kid that my primary responsibility is to be prepared to show up to work, even as a very young child… And then knowing that soap operas, it's possible to get handed boatloads of dialogue, and you've got to learn it. You've got to understand it. You got to be able to deliver it. You got to be light on your feet.”

In PEOPLE’s exclusive first look of the scenes, Howard looks almost unrecognizable as Tom, sporting long hair, a beard and a hoodie over several shirts while talking to Novlan and Kanan.

When the actor was first approached for the role, Howard notes he already had long shaggy hair, which suited the role of Tom perfectly.

"There was this homeless guy that the team over The Bold and The Beautiful has invented. They looked at me and they said, 'homeless guy,'" he jokes of his appearance on the show.

Howard’s return to soaps is a long time coming. In 1987, the actor appeared as an orderly named Marshall in three episodes of Santa Barbara, which ran for nine seasons from 1984 to 1993.

"That was a freedom. That was another lifetime ago,” he recalls of the project. “I didn't have as much to do on Santa Barbara as I did on Bold and The Beautiful, and I haven't gone back and looked at it. I don't even know if I could.”

The actor joins a long list of surprise guest stars who have popped up on The Bold and The Beautiful over the years, including Bob Barker, Drew Carey, Gina Rodriguez and Betty White. Last fall, Marie Osmond appeared as the wealthy Countess Von Frankfurt — a role she told PEOPLE at the time that she "enjoyed" for its unusual nature. ("It’s not one [character] that I’ve played before," she said then.)

Howard, for his part, hints his character Tom could return in future episodes of The Bold and the Beautiful. In the meantime, the actor is keeping busy in other ways, appearing recently on Pauly Shore's podcast The JITV Show, spending time with wife Katherine Cruz (who visited him on set of The Bold and the Beautiful) and enjoying quality moment with friends like Dee Wallace, helping the E.T. star celebrate her 75th birthday in December.

But Howard is particularly jazzed about another upcoming project that couldn't be more different from soaps: a comedy horror film entitled Another Ice Cream Man. The movie, which is a direct sequel to the 1995 cult classic Ice Cream Man, revolves around his character Gregory Tudor and his motivation for deciding to “put body parts in ice cream.”

“I go to make personal appearances at horror conventions, and it [Ice Cream Man] is by far and away my number one horror film that people respond to,” Howard explains, referring to the sequel ultimately as a “warm movie" despite its seemingly scary overtones.

“We're going to follow that journey of what makes a guy go absolutely nuts," he continues. "It will be so delicious. Not to use a bad ice cream pun!”

The Bold and the Beautiful airs weekdays at 1:30 p.m. ET on CBS and is available for streaming on Paramount+. Howard's episodes are set to air on Friday, April 26 and Monday, April 29.

In a not at all shocking turn, Bold & Beautiful Reveals That the ‘Late’ Sheila Carter Is Alive and Kicking

(4/5/24) Despite showing us the killing and the body, despite having EMTs call time of death and having the actress give exit interviews, The Bold and the Beautiful did not, in fact, bump off villainess Sheila Carter in February.

In the April 5 episode of the CBS daytime drama, the madwoman’s grieving fiancé Deacon Sharpe discovered that the corpse that was about to be cremated had 10 toes. He as well as regular viewers know that Sheila only had/has nine, what with her having cut one off in the summer of 2022 in order to convince the authorities that she’d been eaten by a bear.

    You know, as one will.

The twist will come as a relief to fans of Kimberlin Brown’s murderous character, who was introduced on The Young and the Restless in 1990 and has been crossing back and forth between that show and Bold & Beautiful since ’92. The revelation will also be seen as tremendously bad news by most of the other characters on the show, many of whom she has terrorized, kidnapped and/or shot. In fact, it was her daughter-in-law Steffy Forrester who, fearing for her life, stabbed Sheila to “death.”

If the long-running Big Bad is still alive, who did Steffy kill? Perhaps Sheila’s onetime accomplice Sugar (played in the mid-2000s by daytime legend Robin Mattson and, post-plastic surgery, Brown).

Tracey E. Bregman Returns To BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL

(3/31/24) Hello Again: Tracey E. Bregman’s Lauren (l.) drops in on Eric (John McCook) and Donna (Jennifer Gareis).

One of Y&R’s most frequent travelers, Tracey E. Bregman, is making yet another return trip to BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL. She will appear as her Genoa City alter ego, Lauren, on April 4 and 5, and worked opposite John McCook (Eric) and Jennifer Gareis (Donna).

The actress, whose most recent visit to B&B took place in last October, has been crossing back and forth between the sudsers for years. Her first appearance on B&B took place in 1992, and she later became a contract player there. After returning to Y&R full-time, she continued to drop in on B&B, with Lauren popping up in 2002, 2004, 2007 and 2022. When she visited last year, Bregman enthused to Digest, “I’m honored that [Y&R and B&B Co-Creator] Bill Bell chose my character for the first Y&R/B&B crossover and so happy that both shows are continuing the tradition. The crossovers are not only great fun for the viewers but for the cast and crews of both shows.”

Rome Flynn Confirms ‘Chicago Fire’ Exit After 6 Episodes

(3/31/24) Chicago Fire is a firefighter down as Rome Flynn, who portrayed Derrick Gibson in the NBC drama, is leaving after six episodes.

“Curtain call chicago fire,” Flynn shared on Instagram.

Deadline reported Friday that the March 27th episode was Flynn’s final episode in the procedural. In the most recent episode, Flynn’s Gibson has a breakdown and tells Miranda Rae Mayo’s Stella that he needs to leave to enter treatment after having withdrawals from prescription drugs.

Derrick Gibson was a quietly confident former amateur boxer with a dark past. The physically fit and fearless Gibson earns a spot on Truck 51’s radar thanks to a heroic act.

Flynn’s departure follows Kara Killmer’s exit, with her final episode portraying Sylvie Brett airing on Feb. 28. Killmer’s character leaves after marrying Jesse Spencer’s Matt Casey as the couple start a new life in Portland, Oregon.

The Chicago Fire Season 12 premiere also saw Alberto Rosende leave the show with his character Gallo, who only appeared in the first episode and moved to Michigan to be with his family.

Although the NBC procedural has seen several exits, the show has also added some new faces. Jocelyn Hudon joined the cast in a recurring role.

NBC recently renewed all three One Chicago series—Chicago Med, Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D.—for the 2024-25 season. Med was renewed for Season 10, Fire for Season 13 and P.D. for Season 12. All three shows are produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, in association with Wolf Entertainment.

Matthew Perry’s Ex-GF Maeve Quinlan Says His Death 'Wasn’t A Shock’

(3/28/24) While Matthew Perry's death absolutely floored his fans and close friends, his ex-girlfriend Maeve Quinlan is not in that group, as she says they'd all been losing him to addiction ... little by little for years.

"The Bold and the Beautiful" actress dated the "Friends" star from 2002 until 2003 ... telling Soap Opera Digest he was 100% sober the entire time they were together, which she called the greatest gift for her, and some respite for Matthew from his personal demons.

Maeve said they were inseparable during their year together, and he appreciated being with her because she wasn't using drugs.

For a quick recap, Matthew says he got addicted to Vicodin in 1997 after a jet-ski accident, and sought help in rehab the same year. He headed back to rehab -- for pain meds, amphetamines and alcohol -- the year before meeting Maeve.

His battles started up again after they split, and even though they stayed good pals, Maeve admits she wasn't aware of how much Matthew was struggling because he was always making others laugh.

However, they grew further apart in the last few years ... and Maeve says she has a lot of regret over not reaching out to him after the release of his 2022 memoir, "Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing."

Given the challenges Matthew faced in life, his October 2023 death didn't come as a surprise to Maeve, but she was still devastated.

As we reported ... Mathew's autopsy noted he'd been clean for 19 months ... but his death was ruled an accident OD from the acute effects of ketamine.

Ashleigh Brewer Is Returning To B&B!

(3/28/24) (https://www.soapsindepth.com) Fans of THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL who have been clamoring for a reunion between Ivy Forrester and Liam may soon get their wish: Ashleigh Brewer is set to return to the soap, a spokesperson confirmed to Soaps In Depth.

The Australian actress — who was on hand for B&B’s anniversary party on March 22 — first joined the soap as Eric’s niece back in July 2014. (Ivy’s dad is Eric’s younger brother, John.) During Brewer’s four-year run on the show, her alter ego was romantically involved with not only Liam, but Wyatt and Thomas as well. Presumably, the character has been living back home in Australia, to where she returned after leaving behind the Forrester family drama in Los Angeles.

While the daytime drama was Brewer’s first American television role, she was already a seasoned veteran of the soap genre, having played Kate Ramsay on the long-running Australian soap NEIGHBOURS from 2009-2014. After exiting B&B in 2018, Brewer returned to her native country and commenced a six-month stint on another popular Aussie soap, HOME & AWAY, as Chelsea Campbell.

Aside from her HOME & AWAY arc, since parting ways with B&B, Brewer appeared as actress Camille Hagen in the 2018 film My Dinner With Hervé (about FANTASY ISLAND star Hervé Villechaize), the 2019 wedding drama Lovestruck, and the 2020 short film At the Edge of Night. Brewer also had an uncredited role as Totally Hair Barbie in last year’s Oscar-winning box office smash Barbie, which starred her close friend and former NEIGHBOURS co-star Margot Robbie.

There’s no word on when Brewer — who recently got engaged to filmmaker Mark Bauch — is scheduled to make her first appearance, or how Ivy’s return will play into the storyline. So stay tuned to see if a romantic reunion is in the cards for Ivy and one of her suitors!

GH’s Rena Sofer Mourns the Death of Her Family’s Dog, Alfie

(3/20/24) (soapsindepth.com) It’s never easy to say goodbye to a beloved pet, so our hearts go out to GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Rena Sofer (Lois) and her family as they grieve the death of their sweet dog, Alfie. In a pair of Instagram posts, the GH star and her husband, director Sanford Bookstaver, announced the sad news that Alfie had died of cancer.

“I have too much to say. But I have no words right now. It’s all just so much pain,” wrote Sofer. “Yesterday was the most devastating yet expected day. But it was too soon.”

Alfie and his sister, Mega, were the first dogs that Sofer rescued, back in 2017 when she was playing THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL’s Quinn. Over the years, the actress and Bookstaver (as well as their daughter, Avalon) have opened up their home to several other rescue dogs and have fostered countless other canines. Alfie’s death comes eight months after the family lost one of their other rescue dogs, Princess Carolyn, in July 2023.

“I only had my boy for seven years and eight days. Cancer stole him from me, from Sandy, from Avalon, and from his sister, Mega. From everyone who knew and loved him,” Sofer continued. “I love all my dogs, but without remorse, Alfie was my favorite. My heart and soul dog. I am destroyed and numb. The greatest gift we ever gave each other was each other. I will miss you forever and ever and ever.”

“We will miss you every day forever and ever,” wrote Bookstaver.

“We have had many, many dogs, but Alfie was Rena’s baby boy and true love,” shared Sofer’s husband.

Alfie and his sister, Mega, were a bonded pair when Sofer rescued them.

“He was only alive for seven years, but they were beautiful,” Bookstaver said of Alfie’s life with the family.

In a sweet video, Sofer cried while kissing Alfie’s head while hugging Mega with her other hand. “That’s your brother,” she laughed through her tears.

‘The Bold And The Beautiful’ Casts Clint Howard As Mysterious Homeless Man

(3/18/24) A famous face is about to show up on the streets of The Bold and the Beautiful.

Hollywood vet Clint Howard has been cast to play a homeless man named Tom who provides pivotal clues to a mystery.

Howard begins taping today. His episodes will air April 26 and April 29.

Together with his brother Ron, Howard wrote The Boys: A Memoir of Hollywood and Family in 2021. The NYT bestseller chronicles their rise from child stars to Hollywood icons.

Howard started out on The Andy Griffith Show with his brother before breaking out on his own in Gentle Ben in 1967. He’s amassed numerous TV credits, and has appeared in most of his brother’s movies. He last appeared as Commander Buck Martinez on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

The Bold and the Beautiful will celebrate its 37th anniversary on CBS on March 23. The Bell serial is the No. 2 ranked soap in daytime and has been renewed through the fall of 2025.

Bradley P. Bell is the Executive Producer and Head Writer.

George Cheeks, the president and CEO of CBS and chief content officer for news and sports at Paramount+ on new Soap Venture

(3/14/24) (vulture.com) You recently announced that CBS was developing a new soap opera called The Gates that will focus on a Black family. It was sort of shocking, because soaps have been in decline for decades. Is this show actually something which has a chance of getting on the air, or are you still just thinking about the idea?

It’s super real. And just to give you a little bit of the backstory, when we hired Sheila Ducksworth to run the NAACP venture, she and I had multiple meetings talking about what different genres she was going to lean into, and we talked a lot about daytime. One of the things that the data made very clear to both of us is that daytime soap operas over index with Black women, and yet when you look at soap operas, it’s usually sort of a white-led family with supporting characters that reflect more of our society. So we just thought, wouldn’t it be interesting to flip that and make the core anchor family a Black family, and then make the other characters reflect more the broader scope of society?

She found this great writer, Michele Val Jean, who’s been in the soap opera space for 30 years. She came up with a pitch, and we loved it. We brought Procter & Gamble into it as well, because if there were going to be [product] integrations, we could do it more holistically and organically. All of that is to say, we did a lot of work on the front end to put this together. So while yes, it’s development, it’s accelerated development.

When do you think you’d move forward with a formal greenlight then, and how long until it’s on the air?

The actual timeline and when we’re going to do it is still uncertain, because we want to get this right. I mean, there hasn’t been a new soap opera launch since I can’t even begin to tell you when. But we have great success with Bold and the Beautiful and Young and the Restless, and so we think we’re the right folks to be launching a new soap. I wish I could tell you more about exact timing, but we’re so focused on getting it right, and that will dictate when we’re ready to launch it.

Is it more likely to be a half-hour show or an hour?

It’s been being developed as an hour, but I can’t say for sure. I don’t know yet.

Is CBS Daytime Poised For Shakeup? Soap ‘The Gates’ In Works Raises Questions For Future Of ‘The Talk’

(3/14/24) CBS announced some promising news for the future of daytime dramas last week when it revealed plans to develop a new sudser that would follow the lives of a wealthy Black family in a posh, gated community.

Dubbed The Gates, the serial is from Michele Val Jean, who has written more than 2,000 episodes of daytime dramas and won multiple Daytime Emmys for her work on The Bold & The Beautiful and General Hospital. She will serve as writer and showrunner and will also executive producer alongside CBS Studios NAACP Venture President Sheila Ducksworth, along with Leon Russell, Derrick Johnson and Kimberly Doebereiner.

What CBS didn’t say, however, is how long each episode of the soap would be — though it’s looking to be an hour a day — and where (or when) it would go on the schedule should it earn a series pickup. Dropping The Young and the Restless is out of the question since the Bell/Sony drama ranks No. 1 in daytime and just earned a four-season pickup.

Same goes for The Bold and the Beautiful, the Bell serial that is the No. 2 ranked soap in daytime and has been renewed through fall of 2025.

Killing Let’s Make a Deal or The Price is Right doesn’t make sense, since both game shows have solid ratings, sound budgets, and frequently contribute much-needed specials for CBS primetime.

That leaves The Talk, which remains the lowest-rated show on the CBS daytime lineup. Produced by CBS Studios and now in its 14th season, The Talk recently underwent change by hiring Rob Crabbe, the former executive producer of The Late Late Show with James Corden, to replace longtime EP Kristin Matthews.

Crabbe has already made some much-needed improvements, like extending the first act of the show and injecting more intimate interview segments. But this is only Crabbe’s first season and he needs more time to make his mark. For now, The Talk is still down double digits in persons and women 18-49, though it remains the third most-watched talker in daytime behind The View and Live! With Kelly and Mark.

Most recently, CBS let go of The Talk‘s current executive, Laurie Seidman, as well one of the show’s PR reps as part of the company’s widespread layoffs.

The network has yet to announce a 15th season pickup for The Talk and for now, has no further information about the new soap’s timeline — much less where it would go should it earn that pickup.

The decision by CBS Studios to develop a new soap is the result of a partnership with the NAACP and P&G Studios. If picked up to series, The Gates, which Ducksworth has wanted to do since the NAACP formed the partnership with CBS, would mark the first time since 1989 that a daytime drama revolved around a Black family; the last time was the short-lived Generations on NBC.

There are only four soaps still in existence. Besides CBS’ winning lineup, ABC has General Hospital and Peaco*ck has Days of Our Lives.t

“THE 51ST ANNUAL DAYTIME EMMY AWARDS” TO BE BROADCAST FRIDAY, JUNE 7 ON CBS

(3/12/24) The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) and CBS announce THE 51ST ANNUAL DAYTIME EMMY® AWARDS will broadcast LIVE Friday, June 7 (8:00-10:00 PM, ET/delayed PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+*. This year marks the 18th time CBS has broadcast the Daytime Emmy Awards, more than any other network.

The ceremony is set to take place at the historic Westin Bonaventure Los Angeles. The Lifetime Achievement honoree, nominations, host and additional information will be announced in the coming weeks.

“We eagerly anticipate our return in June as we once again partner with CBS to recognize the exceptional and talented individuals who make daytime television great,” said Adam Sharp, president and CEO of NATAS. He added, “We’re thrilled to kick off our second half-century of the Daytime Emmys.”

The Daytime Emmy Awards have recognized outstanding achievement in television programming and crafts since 1974, honoring work in a variety of categories, including daytime dramas, talk shows, instructional programming, hosting, culinary and legal/courtroom programs. In 2021, NATAS and the Television Academy jointly announced plans to realign the Daytime and Primetime Emmy Awards to be organized by content genre, as opposed to program airtime.

THE 51ST ANNUAL DAYTIME EMMY AWARDS is produced by NATAS and Associated Television International (ATI), which produced Daytime Emmy Awards ceremonies on The CW in 2009 and on CBS in 2010, 2011, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023. Adam Sharp and Lisa Armstrong are executive producers from NATAS, while David McKenzie is executive producer from ATI.

CBS Studios NAACP Venture To Develop New Daytime Drama For CBS Called ‘The Gates’

(3/6/24) In a move that could bode well for the future of daytime dramas, CBS Studios and the NAACP, in partnership with P&G Studios, is developing a new sudser for CBS that would follow the lives of a wealthy Black family in a posh, gated community.

Dubbed The Gates, the new daytime drama is from Michele Val Jean, who has written more than 2,000 episodes of daytime dramas and won multiple Daytime Emmys for her work on The Bold & The Beautiful and General Hospital. She will serve as writer and showrunner and will also executive producer alongside CBS Studios NAACP Venture President Sheila Ducksworth, along with Leon Russell, Derrick Johnson and Kimberly Doebereiner.

“The Gates will be everything we love about daytime drama, from a new and fresh perspective,” said Ducksworth. “This series will salute an audience that has been traditionally underserved, with the potential to be a groundbreaking moment for broadcast television. With multi-dimensional characters, juicy storylines and Black culture front and center, The Gates will have impactful representation, one of the key touchstones of the venture.”

“I’m excited to develop this project with CBS and P&G, two of the longest and most passionate champions of broadcast and daytime television, and the NAACP, whose enduring commitment to Black voices and artists is both powerful and inspiring,” continued Ducksworth. “I also want to thank CBS’ George Cheeks, NAACP’s Derrick Johnson and P&G’s Marc Pritchard for their personal involvement and support to take our next step forward with The Gates.”

It’s been years since one of the broadcast networks launched a new daytime sudser. There are only three still existence between CBS and ABC — B&B and The Young and the Restless on CBS, and General Hospital on ABC.

CBS continues to rank No. 1 in daytime with its dramas but all three of the soaps are down in the key demos versus last year. Days of Our Lives is now streaming on Peaco*ck — having moved from NBC to the the platform in 2022.

The CBS Studios’ production venture and development deal with the NAACP was established to help elevate a diverse range of voices as well as increase the visibility of Black artists on broadcast and streaming platforms in an ever-evolving media landscape.

P&G Studios is a division of Procter & Gamble.

Michele Val Jean was represented by Gersh in the deal with CBS and the NAACP.

Why THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL Was Only Renewed for One Year

(3/6/24) (soapsindepth.com) Hot on the heals of the news of THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS’ renewal came the news that THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL has also been renewed. Although fans of B&B were understandably disappointed to learn it had only been picked up for one more year while Y&R got extended for four. But B&B’s supervising producer Casey Kasprzyk explained things during a recent episode of his BOLD LIVE YouTube series.

“I saw a lot of comments saying, ‘Hm. Y&R got four years, B&B only got one,’” he said. “Well, the truth is, we are two different shows with two different contracts, two different deals. So it’s not really my place to comment on it other than to say that we’re on a three-year deal and so the third year was picked up.

“So next year will be when we negotiate for a brand new contract,” Kasprzyk added. “So we are currently on a deal that gives us one more year. So we’re on through 2025. Thank you, CBS, we love being on CBS and we couldn’t be happier. So we’ll have more news next year and hopefully, we’ll be here for a very, very long time. Just wanted to clear that up.”

Created by William J. Bell and Lee Phillip Bell, B&B premiered back on March 23, 1987, and is preparing to celebrate its 37th anniversary later this month. Over the years, it has become incredibly popular internationally with millions of viewers around the globe tuning in to the drama surrounding the wealthy Forrester family. The soap has also taken home numerous Daytime Emmy Awards, including three for Outstanding Drama Series.

So while right now, fans are only assured of getting one more year of B&B, we’re sure that in 2024, the new contract will promise to deliver many more years of drama, romance, and excitement!

Freeform Announces New Unscripted Series ‘Grand Cayman: Secrets In Paradise’ & ‘Wayne Brady: The Family Remix’

(3/6/24) Freeform is expanding its unscripted slate with two new series.

The network announced Wednesday that it has two new reality series set to premiere this year — Grand Cayman: Secrets in Paradise and Wayne Brady: The Family Remix. Details on both series are below.

The news comes as Freeform wrapped one of its flagship scripted series, Good Trouble, on Tuesday after five seasons. Grown-ish, another young adult series that helped the network usher in its new era once it rebranded from ABC Family, is also ending this month.

The network is now focused on repositioning its programming once again to include a larger slate of unscripted original series. The two newly announced series join the existing slate that includes Chrissy & Dave Dine Out, and the upcoming Royal Rules of Ohio and Sasha Reid & The Midnight Order.

Debuting on April 9, Grand Cayman: Secrets in Paradise is described as a “docusoap” that follows a group of uber-rich and on-the-rise locals and expats navigating the rocky waters of their relationships, friendships, and careers in the paradise of the island.

The series stars Elizabeth Chambers, Selita Ebanks, Courtney McTaggart, Craig Jervis, Julian Foster, Aaron Bernardo, Cass Lacelle, Victoria Jurkowski, Chelsea Flynn, Teri Bilewitch, Trevor Coleman, Dillon Claassens, and Connor Bunney.

Executive producers are Aaron Rothman, Josh Halpert, Jessica Chesler, Jesse Light via Haymaker East; Sean Rankine and Mark Seliga via This Way Out Media. Johnny Fountain and Camilo Valdes also serve as executive producers. Chambers and Ebanks serve as producers.

As for Wayne Brady: The Family Remix, no release date has been announced yet, though Freeform says it will debut sometime in the summer. As the name suggests, the series will follow the actor and his family during their day-to-day life.

Here’s a logline for the series:

What happens when an entertainer so iconic peels back the curtain on the realities of an unexpected life? In “Wayne Brady: The Family Remix,” Brady has turned the term “modern family” on its head. He’s still best friends with his ex-wife, soulmate, and business partner, Mandie Taketa. Together, they co-parent their 21-year-old daughter, Maile Brady, a student and aspiring artist, as well as running their production company, A Wayne & Mandie Creative (“Wayne Brady’s Comedy IQ”). Jason Fordham, Mandie’s life partner since 2009, handles the family’s cinematography and post-production; and Mandie and Jason have an almost 3-year-old son, Sundance-Isamu.

Wayne Brady: The Family Remix is a production of Fremantle and A Wayne & Mandie Creative.

‘The Bold And The Beautiful’ Bids Farewell to Soap Veteran Kimberlin Brown

(2/27/24) (I doubt she's dead, just another convoluted plot twist, she'll be back) It’s the end of a villainous era for soap star Kimberlin Brown.

Brown’s notorious character Sheila Carter was killed off in Monday’s episode of The Bold and the Beautiful. She no doubt had it coming; Sheila’s been the epitome of evil since her character was first introduced on The Young and the Restless in 1990. She moved over to B&B in 1992 where she’s been wreaking havoc ever since.

Her death on Monday was at the hands of Steffy Forrester (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood).

“Well, you know, it’s a tough place for me to be in right now; I’m not going to lie about this,” Brown told TV Insider. “I guess if anyone were going to take Sheila down, I’m happy it’s Steffy. I just wish that no one was taking Sheila down. It’s my happy place where I have been so blessed to be for over 35 years. But I’ve had a good run at it, so I’m one of the lucky ones, there’s no doubt about it.”

Brown was nominated twice for a Daytime Emmy. Though she left Y&R for B&B, her character occasionally returned to Genoa City.

Besides appearing in other soaps like Another World, Port Charles, One Life to Live, All My Children, The Bay and General Hospital, Brown’s other TV credits included roles on Diagnosis Murder, Six Feet Under, and Dragnet. Her best work was on the CBS sudsers, where she created a role that fans loved to hate.

Brown told TV Insider that her death scene took hours of “laying on a concrete floor.”

“Laying there on that floor when the paramedics pronounce the time of death, my eyes were closed and you’re holding your breath so it doesn’t look like you’re breathing,” Brown told the outlet. “It was just like, ‘Wow, OK, I guess we’ll have to see what might come next for me.’”

‘Blue Mountain State’ Sequel Series With Alan Ritchson Being Shopped

(2/23/24) Cult college football series Blue Mountain State is making a comeback. A sequel to the 2010 comedy recently hit the TV marketplace, with Reacher’s Alan Ritchson set to reprise his role as Kevin “Thad” Castle. The original series’ co-leads Darin Brooks and Chris Romano also are expected to be back for the followup, from Lionsgate Television.

According to sources, the project has not fully landed yet with negotiations ongoing. The likely destinations are said to be Amazon, where Ritchson headlines hit series Reacher, and Netflix, where Blue Mountain State found new audience and cemented its cult status following its original three-season run on Spike.

Created by Chris Romano and Eric Falconer, who I hear are back for the sequel, Blue Mountain State is about a fictitious university, Blue Mountain State, and its football team, the Mountain Goats. It centers on three incoming freshman — played by Darin Brooks, Alan Ritchson and Chris Romano — who must quickly adapt to college life and juggle football, girls, classes and nonstop hazing. Ritchson’s Kevin “Thad” Castle was the ever-inspiring team captain of the BMS football team.

Funded by a Kickstarter campaign, a followup movie, Blue Mountain State: The Rise of Thadland, was released in 2016 with Brooks, Ritchson and Roman reprising their roles.
