George Taylor offici ating. Natural Gas Led to Blast A fire earlier this month at Baptist Bible College, which had originally been blamed on an ex plosion of sewer gas, was apparently not sewer gas at all, but an accumulation of natural gas. After the fire, inspectors located a blocked sewer under the dormitory apartment wher the fire occurred and since no other type of gas leaks could be lo cated, theorized the sewerage had produced an explosive gas. Subsequently, however, City Utilities workmen checked gas mains in the vicinity and discovered "several leaks in the main, one of which was in the vicinity of the explosion." Fire Warden Kent Ripley investigated the matter today and reported it is possible that the natural gas leak "followed the sewer pipes, accumulated under the apartment and then seeped into the apartment. When the occupant unplugged an electrical outlet, aspark was produced which set off the explosion." CU crewmen are currently replacing gas lines in the area.
