Today is Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day). Holocaust Remembrance Day changes every year on the Gregorian calendar, but it corresponds to the 27th day of Nisan on the Hebrew calendar, which is the anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising.The Warsaw Ghetto Uprising was on April 19, 1943. It began after German troops and police entered a ghetto in the city of Warsaw to deport its surviving inhabitants. Jewish insurgents resisted these efforts. This was the largest uprising by Jews during WWII and the first significant urban revolt against German occupation in Europe.
